5. Host a Zoom meeting

Creating a Zoom account

If you want host your own Zoom meeting, you need to create a Zoom account.To create an account, open the Zoom app on your computer. It might be at the bottom of your screen, on your desktop, or in your list of applications

Once you’ve opened the Zoom app on your computer, click on the Sign Up button in the bottom right corner.

Create your account by entering the information the app asks for, like your date of birth and your email address. To create a Zoom account, you need to be 18 or older.

Now you have your own Zoom account! You can create and host your own meetings using your new account.

Creating a Zoom meeting

When you have a free Zoom account, you can host meetings for 40 minutes at a time. After your meeting ends, you can start a new one right away.

Start the meeting

When you’re ready to start a Zoom meeting, open the Zoom app and click on the New Meeting button.

Invite participants

To invite people to your Zoom Meeting, click on the Participants button at the bottom of your screen.

Click on Invite, and choose Email.

Next, you’ll need to pick the email service you’d like to use. For example, if you have a Gmail account or email address, click on Gmail.

Zoom will connect to your email, and create an email message for you to send to the people you want to invite to your meeting. The email message will include a link that your contacts can click on to join your Zoom meeting.

Type in the email addresses of the people you want to invite to your Zoom meeting in the To: section near the top of the email. Once you’ve added the email addresses of everyone you want to invite to your meeting, click on Send.

You can invite up to 100 people to join your Zoom meeting. If you want to add more than 100 people, you’ll need to pay for a Zoom Pro account.

Scheduling a Zoom meeting

If you want to schedule a Zoom meeting for a later time, open the Zoom app and click on the Schedule button.

When you schedule a Zoom meeting, you can set the details for your meeting.

You can:

  • pick a date, time, and duration for your meeting
  • create a password for people to use to join your meeting
  • decide if your meeting will include video for you (the Host) and other participants, or if it will be a voice only meeting

Once you’ve added the details of your scheduled meeting, click on the blue Save button at the bottom of the screen.

Inviting people in advance

You can see any meetings you’ve scheduled by clicking on the Meetings button in the Zoom app. Click the Copy Invitation button to copy all the information about your meeting and the meeting link. If you want to invite people to your meeting in advance, paste the meeting invitation into an email and send the email to anyone you want to invite.

Editing and deleting your meeting

If you want to make any changes to your scheduled meeting, like changing the date and time, click on the Edit button. If you need to cancel your scheduled meeting, you can delete the meeting by clicking the Delete button.
